What is MLD / CDT ?
MLD and CDT are acronyms for "Manual Lymph Drainage" and "Combined Decongestive Therapy".
Manual Lymph Drainage is a very light massage technique that uses a gentle, rhythmic and
monotonous touch with simultaneous skin stretches. This technique encourages the lymph flow and
helps to create alternative paths around blocked areas into more centrally located lymph vessels
allowing eventual drainage into the venous system.
Combined Decongestive Therapy involves pre and post compression bandaging with Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy
to prevent reaccumulation of lymph fluid.
It involves some light exercising while being bandaged as well as skin care to prevent infections.
CDT is an overall management therapy primarily used for Lymphedema patients.

Here are some of the benefits of MLD:
- Faster recovery and less scarring from surgery and other types of trauma by
making lymph flow faster and stimulating the formation of new connections between lymph vessels.
The lymph system is responsible for transporting damaged cells, inflammatory products and toxins away from the area.
- Congestive conditions such as chronic sinusitis, bronchitis, acne, and headaches due to fluid retention
can be cleared by eliminating waste products from connective tissue and improving the metabolic situation.
- Strengthens the immune system by accelerating the transportation of immunocompetent cell systems.
- MLD has a sympathicolytic effect (calming of the sympathetic nervous system which allows the para-sympathetic
nervous system to be reflexively stimulated). People who suffer from insomnia, stress, fibromyalgia,
and even autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Reumatism, etc. benefit from this effect.
MLD has countless benefits and effects, but the fact is not all Lymphatic Drainage therapists can obtain the
same results. Unlike a regular massage, such as Swedish massage, MLD requires intensive knowledge of the lymph
system as well as precise technique and accurate pressure to accomplish excellent results.
Our MLD therapist, Toni Kurosawa, is trained and certified by Dr. Vodder's School of North America,
the most extensive and intense Lymph Drainage program offered in North America.
